This slender twining plant in the legume family is common but rarely noticed except when flowering. It is an attractive light climber for gardens, on fences and logs, is very hardy when established, and responds to pruning. Stems will grow to 1-2 metres and can reshoot from the woody base after fire. It tolerates moderate frost and dry periods once established, but prefers root protection. Flowers are a nectar and pollen source for native insects, including bees and wasps. It has been heavily grazed by stock as nutritious and palatable and is generally observed only where grazing has been excluded.
