Hakea dactyloides is a sturdy shrub growing up to 3m in height and 2 to 3m wide. It is single stemmed and grows without a lignotuber. The leaves are broad in shady places and thinner in open areas. They typically have 3 prominent veins running the length of each leaf. During September to November there are white flowers (sometimes pink) along the length of the latest years growth.
The fruits are oval in shape with small warts and a small pointy beak. It has proven to be reliable in a range of well-drained soils and is able to tolerate extended dry conditions once established. It will grow successfully in full sun or semi shaded positions and the flowers are attractive to honey-eating birds.
