These little yellow buttons spread rapidly amongst other plants or in open patches to form an effective and attractive ground cover. The flower heads are up to 2cm diameter with the main yellow flowers surrounded by a circle of yellow bracts. The flowers are held aloft at 20 to 30cm on stems growing from tufts of light green leaves. Both the stems and the leaves are hairy and smaller clasping leaves are found on the stems.

These plants can look lovely as edging plants or in clumps amongst other displays or as ground cover in less organised parts of the garden. They are found throughout the mountains in grassland and forest areas. The flowering time runs from spring through to   autumn.  There is a very similar species Coronidium scorpioides also found in many mountain locations.
