This Tea-Tree is not well known but has some very useful properties. The leaves occur in length from 6mm to 10mm. They are narrow lanceolate and with firm pointed (pungent) tips, making a prickly plant. Such a habit gives safety to small birds seeking seeds or, during flowering time nectar and it is protective against “unwanted visitors”. It grows to about 2m tall and 1m wide and as such can be used to form a very pleasing hedge or when pruned, can give a very neat formal hedge. The flowers are white and up to 10mm in diameter. They form singly all along the branches giving a good display in spring to early summer.
These plants grow well in full sun or part shade on sand, loam or clay in areas of swamp, heath and sedgeland that are moist but with good drainage.
They are widespread in the Mountains.
