You’re invited to Biodiversity Discovery Day – a free and family-friendly event open to all. Wildplant will be there!
Come along to meet eco-heroes from state and local environmental organisations, learn simple, enjoyable, and practical ways you can be eco-friendly, and get motivated to take small, effective actions to protect the threatened species of the Blue Mountains.
You’ll also hear from a range of inspiring speakers covering topics on platypus, bees, the Blue Mountains perch, and swamps.
Discover how you can make a positive impact in our UNESCO World Heritage Area.
While you’re here you can also pop into Katoomba Library next door and check out their showcase of amazing resources available for your learning journey on biodiversity.
Guest Speakers
10:30-11am: Dr Michelle Ryan from Western Sydney University will be sharing her Platypus Research.
11:15-11:45am: Fiona Hassleman will be speaking about bees and how they are important to the environment.
12-12:30pm: Professor John Merson will speak about swamps and citizen science joined with him is Trent Forge from National Parks and Wildlife Service.
12:45-1:15pm: Will Goodwin from Blue Mountains City Councils Healthy Waterways team will speak about the Blue Mountains Perch and waterway health.
1:30-2pm: The Saving our Species team from the Department of Climate Change, Energy and Water will finish off with a fun quiz.
Extra Activities
We will have Greater Sydney Landcare who will speak about Koala surveys in the lower Blue Mountains, The Blue Mountains City Council Bushcare team who are giving away native plants in return for weed removal, Wildplant Rescue Nursery where you can see the beauty of Blue Mountains natives, The Planetary Health Initiative where you can take action to restore the health of our natural systems, and much more.
