We are answering many inquiries lately about which pots the nursery can re-use, so as a reference I will give the details here.
First off, thank you to everyone with pots who thinks of us before throwing them out. We definitely wash, sterilize and re-use all our own tubes, pots and trays.
The ones we accept are:
our own tubes, which are 50mm forestry tubes. Please note they have a bit of the corners sliced off on the bottom which allows them to fit into our trays
Ordinary BLACK 140mm pots
Our trays, which fit 40 of our tubes.
Typical seedling punnet which we use for seed raising
Also any very large pots and any of our OWN labels.
Please don't dump anything else at the nursery. We don't need your garden shop name tags and plastic holders, or any different pots, trays, multi-punnets or junk PLEASE. We don't have a recycling bin so it just has to go straight into the rubbish bin.
There are many other options for recycling all the other garden plastics.... the manufacturer of most of them, Garden City Plastics, has a skip at the local tip where they will actually recycle them and make new ones.
This is information from the council website about recycling all the other sorts of plant pots
"Plastic plant pots (PP5) can be recycled for free. Simply:
1. Check its clearly labelled PP5 (triangle containing the number 5),
2. Tap out any excess material
3. Stack pots together to maximise collection space (labels can remain on) and
4. Drop off at one of the following facilities:
• Blaxland Resource Recovery and Waste Management Facility
• Katoomba Resource Recovery and Waste Management Facility
Small plastic plant pot and seedling containers (larger than a credit card and smaller than 30cm diameter) can be put in your Recycling bin. (From https://www.bmcc.nsw.gov.au/a-zwaste)
