In a shocking decision, the Government owners of the Clairvaux site have denied permission for the "Save Clairvaux" gathering to be held there this coming Saturday, 25th October.
We will meet instead at the
Katoomba Community Centre (old library area behind Coles supermarket) in the Dining Room
Please join us there to show you care about keeping the historic community centre, Clairvaux, in community hands. Find out what the proposal of the Blue Mountains Community Land Trust is all about.
It's time to encourage the Government to honour its promise made in 2002, to give Clairvaux to the community! (see photo of BMGazette article from 23 years ago!!!)
In the words of Bob Debus, who originally "handed over the keys" all those years ago, in good faith that the property would indeed belong to the community....
"I would certainly hope that the present State Ministers engaged in the property transactions around the Clairvaux sites are able to give acknowledgment to this long history and to properly consider the proposal of the engaged community groups for its future use.
In particular I can confirm that the arguments for the provision of social housing to provide affordable accommodation for the substantial number of lower income people who live in the town of Katoomba are absolutely compelling. The Clairvaux site, so long associated with community activism, also offers a ready-made location for a substantial low cost housing initiative. "
